Such a small organ has such a big impact on the body. I like to think of the thyroid gland as the master conductor of your body as it controls all your body systems. If your thyroid is off, you will definitely feel it in your body. Typical symptoms of thyroid dysfunction can be exhaustion, hair loss, anxiety, weight gain, and digestive issues, to name a few.
I've had people come to my after seeing their doctor, who "tested their thyroid" only to be told their numbers look good and they are fine. This can be extremely frustrating as their symptoms still exist and they continued to feel horrible.
There are many things you can do if you suspect a thyroid disorder. The first step is to get tested for a "proper" diagnosis. This will also determine the next course of action. For whatever reason, the gold standard in testing thyroid hormones is only to do 2 tests. THIS will not give you a proper picture of your thyroid health and you’ll need a full panel. Also, an ultrasound test can help diagnose Hashimotos and check for any nodules.
Please note, these are only my recommendations and may not be recognized by doctors who are not familiar with functional medicine.
